William Fry from Notthingham, England took home the first EPT ever played in Hungary - EPT Budapest A lot of action at the first EPT Budapest (€4,350 buy-in, about $5500) made sure there was no such thing as a tight schedule in the Hungarian capital. After 2 days out of 4 in this event, we were already down from 532 to 45 players. And this massacre continued, even on the final table. A mere 76 hands were enough to end it all.
Most noticable player on the final table was
Johnny "bad_ip" Lodden. He's finished deep in a lot of EPT events, but never had he made the final table yet. But unfortunately for Lodden, his happiness was replaced by disappointment pretty soon, when he got his money in with pocket kings on a Jd8c2d board. He was still ahead of Zolthan Toth's AdKd and Martin Jacobson's Td7d, but he had to dodge a lot of outs to win the hand. In the end, the river brought a 9s making Jacobson his straight and Lodden was out in 8th place.
It didn't take long before the final two players were known. After
William Fry lost his chiplead to Romanian
Ciprian Hrisco, Fry regains his chiplead rather quickly. He then continues to pressure his opponent, who decides to push all-in with Ac6d. Fry didn't hesitate to call with his pocket jacks and with no help from the board whatsoever,
William Fry wins this first EPT Budapest and €595,839 (around $750,000)!
